The rhinoceros iguana is an endangered species of iguana that is endemic to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola and its surrounding islands. A large lizard, they vary in length from 60 to 136 centimetres, and skin colours range from a steely grey to a dark green and even brown. Their name derives from the bony-plated pseudo-horn or outgrowth which resembles the horn of a rhinoceros on the iguana's snout. Adults often remember: Species of iguana endemic to the Caribbean. At Get To Know Animals we turn those wild facts into daily care — the right heat, humidity, UV where needed, climbing or digging space, and food that matches what Rhinoceros Iguanas evolved to eat.
It costs over £35,000 every month to feed, heat and care for 300+ animals. UVB bulbs alone can cost £20–£40 each and need regular replacing; add heat mats, live feeders, vet checks and tropical electricity and one reptile room becomes a serious bill.
